Marriage License Requirements
Marriage Licenses are issued by the Town Clerk's office in
the town where the marriage will be performed. Once issued, the marriage
license is good for 65 days. There is no waiting period between
applying for and receiving your license.
The Town Clerk's office does not perform wedding ceremonies. We are happy to provide the couple with
a list of Wethersfield Justices of the Peace. Arrangements can be made directly with the Justice you select.
To obtain your marriage license, please download and complete the marriage license worksheet located at the bottom of the Town Clerk’s page. Once it has been completed, please email it to town.clerk.office@wethersfieldct.gov. It will be entered into our marriage license application and emailed back to you for review. Once it has been determined that the information is correct, you can make an appointment to come to the office to take the oath, sign the marriage license and pay for the license and the certified copy. You must both be present to sign the license.
The fee for the license is $50. We also suggest you purchase a certified copy of the license at the same time for an additional $20. Total cost for the license and certified copy is $70.
Please be sure to bring identification—a driver's license or a valid passport. We accept cash or a personal check for the license.
The process takes about 10 minutes depending on activity in the office— The hours to obtain a marriage license are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. During the summer, licenses are issued Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., Thursday from 8 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., and Friday from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The Wethersfield Town Hall is located at 505 Silas Deane Highway. If you have any questions, please call our office at (860) 721-2830.
