Assistance for Disabled Under 60 years of age
The department provides information and referral services for those with disabilities. In addition, caseworkers can assist with the completion of forms or applications and provide support for independent living. Caseworkers interface with other support agencies and make clients aware of additional services or fund sources. Contact Christina Morra-Tiu at (860) 721-2884.
The Wethersfield Advisory Committee for People With Disabilities has produced a handbook for Wethersfield residents and their caretakers and agencies that help people with disabilities to achieve their goals. This handbook has excellent information and resources regarding programs and agencies that can assist people with disabilities. Limited copies are available in print and can be found at the Wethersfield Library and the Wethersfield Social and Youth Services Department, and it is available for download in PDF format.
Camp Scholarship Fund for Youth
Each spring, the department offers a limited number of camp scholarships to Wethersfield families with financial need. Donations to the Camp Scholarship Fund are accepted throughout the year. For further information please call (860) 721-2880.
Crisis Intervention and Referral Services
Department staff are available during normal working hours to provide crisis intervention services, information and referral on an emergency basis. Call the department at (860) 721-2880. During non working hours, contact the Wethersfield Police Department at (860) 721-2900.
Energy Assistance
For those who qualify financially, department staff and a CRT worker process applications that provide energy assistance during the heating season. For further information and to find out if you qualify, contact Social and Youth Services, (860) 721-2880.
Food Pantry and Clothing Closet
The Food and Clothing Bank are available to any Wethersfield resident in need. Donations of clothes, food (only non-expired items) or funds to purchase food are welcome at any time. To use the banks or to donate, contact Christina Morra-Tiu at (860) 721-2884.

Mobile foodshare
The department sponsors a site for this program every other Wednesday morning from 9-9:30 a.m. This program provides fresh fruits and vegetables to participants. This is an open site and therefore is available to residents of Wethersfield as well as non-residents. Mobile Foodshare schedule 2024
Mobile App Connects Veterans to Services
The CTVeterans Mobile App connects Veterans, current service members and their families to a directory of services the state provides for Veterans, as well as access to the Veterans Crisis hotline and information on how to support veterans. The Mobile App can be downloaded free of charge from the iTunes Store and Google Play Store by searching the keyword "CTVeterans."
Holiday Giving (Food and Gifts)
Every year the department sponsors a Thanksgiving food program which is held the Saturday before Thanksgiving. The department accepts donations of food throughout the year and gifts during the holidays to assist families or individuals with financial need. Donations of new unwrapped toys are accepted as well as gift cards. Families in need can apply for assistance by showing proof of residency and income. They will be assigned a time to come and select gifts for their children. Children must be 18 (still in high school) and under to qualify. Only parents or guardians can receive gifts for their children who reside in Wethersfield. Please call (860) 721-2880.
