The Solomon Welles House is a historic home built in 1774. The house and grounds may be used by town residents and responsible groups and organizations whose membership preferably include Wethersfield residents, and whose aims are educational, cultural and civic betterment. General Information
- Kitchen Facilities - Sink, refrigerator, oven and countertop microwave. Kitchen is not stocked. Please bring whatever equipment and utensils are needed for food preparation and serving. Examples: can opener, corkscrew, dishes, potholders, plastic wrap, paper towels, sponges, dish detergent, etc.
- One 60-cup coffeepot and one 40-cup coffeepot are available for use.
- Folding card tables and folding chairs will be set up in the house or on the porch (weather permitting). Tables and chairs cannot be removed from the porch and placed on the lawn.

- Room Size: 15' wide x 47' long
- The house is not air-conditioned.
- The lavatories are not handicapped accessible.
- A resident custodian lives in the apartment at the rear of the house. The person is there to help those who use the house and for the protection of its contents.
- All reservations for the use of the house are made through the Parks and Recreation Department in the Town Hall by calling (860) 721-2890.

Rules and Regulations
- The scheduled time to enter and depart the facility is strictly enforced. Please be sure to schedule the appropriate hours for the event. No exceptions will be granted.
The Solomon Welles House and grounds may be used for meetings of responsible groups and organizations whose membership preferably includes Wethersfield residents, and whose aims are educational, cultural and civic betterment.
- Wethersfield residents and businesses can rent the house for functions or parties. A Wethersfield resident must be present and responsible for the function.
- Use of the house and grounds shall not be granted for meetings, which are intended to further personal gain by an individual.
- Any activity involving admission or fees charged by a group during permit hours, must be restricted to club members and guests. Number of guests shall not exceed 50% of the club membership.
- Individual or group reservations may be placed with the Parks and Recreation Department. Permits are issued on a first come, first served basis.
- Permission shall not be granted to any group to use the house or grounds more than once a week.
- Permits for the house shall not exceed two (2) meetings per day, preferably one daytime and one evening reservation.
- Permits are not transferable.
- The user shall be responsible for the cost of the security and/or custodial services as determined necessary by the Town Manager or his agent.
- The Town Manager or his agent may refuse permission for continued use of the house and grounds to any group and organization which has caused damage to or misuse of the house, furniture or equipment or has not adhered to the rules and regulations of the facility.
- The user is responsible for loss or damage to any personal property of a group or members of a group which occurs during the use of the house and grounds.
- Any individual or group granted permission to use the house or grounds shall be responsible for the replacement or repair of any damaged equipment or fixtures.
- Any individual or group granted permission to use the house or grounds for a display or exhibit may be required to show a Certificate of Insurance covering each item being exhibited in amounts deemed adequate by the Town Manager or his agent.
- The Town requires a copy of the caterer's general liability insurance in the amount of $300,000.00. This certificate must be sent to the Parks and Recreation Department three (3) weeks prior to the event.
- The premises shall be left clean and orderly.
- Permits for groups with children shall be issued only to adults who accept the responsibility for supervising them throughout the period covered by the permit.
- Weddings are not allowed.
- Dancing is not allowed.
- Background or dinner music is allowed at the discretion of the Parks and Recreation Director.
- The house opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 11 p.m., Sunday through Saturday.
- Seating capacity is 52 and standing capacity is 74.
- Liquor is allowed only in the house and on the property in the immediate vicinity of the house. No liquor is allowed in Cove Park. A liquor permit is required. The Parks and Recreation Department will prepare this permit at no charge.
- No decorations are allowed on the walls, ceiling or pillars. No glitter, mylar cuttings, silly string, confetti or piñatas are allowed. Flowers, plants and balloons can be set up on the tables. No candles can be lit in the house, except for birthday candles on a cake.
- Smoking is not permitted.
- Cooking of food is not allowed. Oven and/or microwave are available for warming food only.
- The kitchen facilities are available to groups using the house.
- Parties for children are not allowed.
- No parking is allowed in the circle.
