Emergency Management & Operations

The mission of the Town of Wethersfield, Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), is to effectively coordinate the preparation, response and recovery efforts of Town, State and Federal resources when hazardous or emergency conditions, potentially impact our community.  The Town of Wethersfield’s Emergency Operations Plan serves as the guiding document for these efforts. 

Emergency Management Services for Wethersfield is overseen by the Town Manager who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer and Director of Public Safety for the Town. 

The Town of Wethersfield’s Office of Emergency Management is led by the Emergency Management Director (EMD) and is comprised of key, senior town management officials who, as a team, manage those hazardous or emergency situations that may impact the town and our residents.  Through the use of the Incident Command System (ICS) and the National Incident Management System (NIMS), the Town Manager and the Emergency Management Director, coordinate all town efforts based on the nature of the emergency. 

In addition to the Emergency Management Director and Deputy Emergency Management Director, the team is made up of representatives of the Fire, Police, Ambulance, Social Services, Recreation, Public Health, Board of Education, Physical Services, Town Clerk's Office, Finance, Fire Marshal and Engineering departments.

The Town of Wethersfield Emergency Operations Center may be utilized during times of emergency and, under a unified command process, coordinates the mitigation of the emergency; provide timely communications to the populace affected and assists in summoning additional regional, State and Federal resources if needed, operates a system of local shelters, which will provides safe centralized locations for residents during critical times of need.
