The Town of Wethersfield is pleased to announce the launch of a new winter community art initiative, Snow People on Main, a creative program that brings together local schools, students, and the broader community.
As part of the program, four-foot-tall snow person cutouts will be distributed to schools throughout Wethersfield. Students will decorate the snow people during school art activities, showcasing their creativity, school pride, and unique perspectives. Once completed, the snow people will be displayed along Main Street, creating a festive and welcoming winter streetscape for residents and visitors alike.
The snow people were crafted by Wingsite Displays, who donated the design and construction cost of the project. Each snowman is made of thick plywood material, with a smooth finish, and stands in an “A-frame” style with snow people on each side.
“Snow People on Main is a wonderful opportunity to highlight student artwork while bringing a bit of seasonal joy to our historic downtown,” said Mayor Ken Lesser. “This program strengthens the connection between our schools, families, and local businesses, and enhances Main Street as a vibrant destination during the winter months.”
Mayor Lesser highlights the fact that two young people in the community, Brandon and Ryan Hill brought this idea to him after each writing letters to the Mayor and then presenting a Power Point presentation to Town officials. The young men are Wethersfield residents and attend the Wethersfield school system.
The display will be an outdoor gallery of student-created art, encouraging community members to stroll downtown, support local businesses, and celebrate the creativity of Wethersfield’s young artists. The program is designed to be inclusive, engaging students of various ages and fostering a sense of community pride.
The Town hopes to make this an annual tradition.
