CALEA Accreditation

The Wethersfield Police Department was first accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) in 1992. The CALEA accreditation program requires agencies to comply with over 480 state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services.

On November 19, 2022, the Wethersfield Police Department received its 10th reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, (CALEA). The award was presented to the Wethersfield Police Department at the CALEA Conference in St. Louis, Missouri. In order to receive accreditation, the police department must submit to annual policy and file assessments that are conducted by a client service manager off-site. Every four years, a site-based assessment occurs where CALEA assessors travel to the agency to determine if re-accreditation will be awarded. Each assessment includes reviews of written policies, procedures, actual practices, interviews, and inspection of town equipment and facilities.
