Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000 (The DD Act) authorized State Councils on Developmental Disabilities to engage in advocacy, capacity building, and systemic change activities that contribute to a comprehensive, coordinated, and self-determined system of individualized services and supports that is centered on and directed by individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
IU is the independent living center for the Hartford area. Run for people with disabilities by people with disabilities, IU offers classes on how to hire and supervise personal care attendants, home management, budgeting, relationships, sexuality, and more. Other services including transportation to and from IU, are also available.
The Arc Connecticut is an advocacy organization committed to protecting the rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and promoting opportunities for their full inclusion in their communities.
