Zoning Enforcement Officer & Planning Assistant

Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the Town Planner, or their designee, performs a range of zoning and code enforcement tasks necessary to promote public health, safety and preserve the beauty of the Wethersfield neighborhoods and reduce or eliminate blighted premises.

Essential Function of Work:

Administer and enforces zoning regulations, Town ordinances, and Property Maintenance Codes.
Conducting property inspections; investigating zoning and property maintenance complaints; and issuing notices of violation, cease-and-desist orders, and citations when necessary.
Works with the Planning & Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, and other Town boards. Responsibilities include attending meetings, preparing agendas, and drafting reports as required.
Will also work with the Town Attorney and public and private enforcement agencies.
Reviewing and approving zoning, site plan, and sign permit applications; issuing certificates of zoning compliance.
Proactively identifying neglected or non-compliant properties,
Recommends improvements on Property Maintenance codes and enforcement procedures and policies.
Responding to public inquiries
Preparing reports and legal notices;
Tracking complaints using available software systems.
Participating in professional training and development,
Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualification:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Geography, Public Administration, Engineering or a related field of study; or two (2) years of experience in a similar or related position or field. Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certified by Connecticut Association of Zoning Enforcement Official (CAZEO) or as a condition of employment must be certified within one (1) year of appointment.
Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
