Wethersfield residents using the Transfer Station require a permit, except to pick up mulch and drop off leaves.
Waste generated from properties located outside of Wethersfield is not permitted at the Transfer Station.
Hydraulic dump beds and/or trailers are not allowed in the Transfer Station. Box trucks larger than 10 feet are not allowed in the Transfer Station. 3 cubic yards is the maximum capacity per visit. Trailers larger than 8 feet are not allowed in the Transfer Station.
The town reserves the right to refuse loads which are not suited for disposal in the Transfer Station. Some examples of refused loads include: large tree stumps, dirt, turf, stones and rocks, shingles, asphalt and cement. The Transfer Station does not accept any hazardous material.
Permits and appliance pick-up decals may be purchased at the Transfer Station at 100 Marsh Street. When purchasing a permit, please be prepared to provide your name, address, telephone number and the make, model and registration number of your vehicle. Proof of residency is required.
The Transfer Station is in operation to serve as a convenience to the residents of Wethersfield. It is not intended to be a landfill nor is it intended to provide an alternate dumping site for large commercial users.
Permits are sold only at the Transfer Station at 100 Marsh Street, Monday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m..

*Unacceptable Mattresses $30. The following items can not go in the free Mattress Recycling Container. They are accepted at the Transfer Station for a fee depending upon size:
- Severely damaged, twisted, wet, frozen or soiled mattresses
- Mattresses infested with bed bugs or other living organisms
- Sleeping bags
- Pillows and cushions
- Loose bedding, blankets or sheets
- Car beds
- Juvenile products, i.e., a carriage, basket dressing table, stroller, playpen, infant carrier, lounge pad or crib bumper
- Water beds
- Camping air mattresses
- Fold-out sofa beds
- Futons and furniture
- Loose mattress pads and toppers

Recyclable Items Accepted
Any item that is recyclable at the curb may also be brought to the Transfer Station, free of charge. The Transfer Station also accepts the following items, free of charge:
- Fluorescent Lights (including compact fluorescent bulbs).
- Textiles - Donation container.
- Electronics - Computers, mice, keyboards, monitors, televisions, VCRs, DVD players, iPods, PDAs, cell phones, stereo and radio equipment, printers, copiers, telephones, cables, modems, typewriters and fax machines.
- Motor Oil & Antifreeze - New and used motor oil, motor oil filters (drained), antifreeze and diesel fuel. (No gasoline, kerosene, paint thinner, brake fluid, hydraulic fluid, cleaning fluids, etc.) Used cooking oil is also accepted.
- Batteries - Automotive and marine type lead acid storage batteries may be delivered to the Transfer Station or any retailer of such batteries. Alkaline type batteries are also accepted.
- Metal Items - Small metal items including shelves, tables, chairs, pipes, bicycles, lawnmowers and sinks etc. should be delivered to the Transfer Station. Empty water-based paint cans may be placed in your refuse container provided the lid is removed and the paint has dried completely. Appliances such as air conditioners containing freon will be subject to a $10 fee to pay for the removal of the hazardous material freon once the appliance is brought to the transfer station. A disposal sticker must be purchased at the Transfer Station for appliances to be picked up at curbside.

Leaves, Brush and Grass
- Leaves - Residents can bring leaves, free of charge, to the Transfer Station on Monday, Friday or Saturday.
- Brush - Residents can bring brush to the Transfer Station. Brush is charged per 1/2 cubic yard. A 1/2 cubic yard is comparable to filling a 95 gallon refuse container full of brush.
- Grass - Residents can dispose of grass clippings at the Transfer Station. There is a charge of $3 per 32 gallon barrel. Residents are encouraged to compost on their own property, or leave the clippings on the lawn. Grass recycling information can be obtained on our web site.
Donation Containers
- Clothes and Home Goods - The Hartford-based non-profit organization Charities of Hope has a donation container. Residents can drop off clothes, shoes and home goods.
- Books - Better World Books is a self-sustaining, for-profit social venture. They partner with nearly 3,100 libraries and over 1,800 college campuses across the U.S. and Canada, collecting unwanted textbooks and library discards in support of non-profit literacy programs.
